Soldier’s Memorial Park is La Porte’s oldest and most historic park, dedicated in 1923 to honor local veterans. Spanning more than 550 acres, it stretches along the shores of Stone Lake and Pine Lake, making it one of the city’s most scenic outdoor spaces.

Visitors will find trails, playgrounds, ball fields, picnic shelters, and lakeside amenities, plus event spaces that have been central to community life for generations.

* If you’d like to reserve a shelter in advance, the La Porte Parks & Recreation Office handles all rentals (call 219-326-9600) and posts rates and availability on their Facility Rentals page. Reservations are recommended to ensure the shelter is available during peak times.

Beach and lake Access

Soldier’s Memorial Park has a sandy swimming beach on Stone Lake, along with boat launches and shoreline fishing on both Stone and Pine Lakes.

It’s a favorite summer spot for cooling off and enjoying the water.

Kayak Rental

During the summer, visitors can rent kayaks right at Stone Lake Beach.

Rentals include paddles and life vests, making it easy to get out on the water and explore the lake.

SMP is La Porte’s main MTB spot, offering a network of singletrack with flowy turns, ridge sections, and optional skill features.

The trails range from beginner to a few challenging black-diamond segments, giving riders plenty of options.

Veteren’s Memorials
