From 1880 to 1930, the Monon Railroad brought thousands of vacationers to the shores of Cedar Lake, transforming it into a beloved destination for communities across the Calumet Region. History Hour at the Barker Mansion explores this golden era through the lens of Lassen's Resort and the vibrant summer culture it helped create.
Guest speaker Julie Zasada brings deep passion and expertise to the subject. As Executive Director of the Cedar Lake Historical Association, she presents Cedar Lake history at The Museum at Lassen's Resort and aboard Dewey Line resort history cruises, writes grants to fund restoration projects, and has personally helped renovate the 105-year-old historic hotel. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover a fascinating chapter of regional history. The program runs from 12:00 to 12:45pm at the Barker Mansion in Michigan City.
